Memorial services for Miss Mae Del Schiller, 94, of Caldwell, will be held Saturday, March 20th at 2:45 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell. Miss Schiller died at her home Saturday, March 13, 2010. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 19th, 2010, at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel.
Miss Schiller was born February 8, 1916 in Caldwell, Texas to Henry J. Schiller and Lydia Skrivanek Schiller. She graduated from Caldwell High School, received her B.A. degree from Texas Women’s University, her M.A. from the University of Texas, and then continued her studies at universities in Mexico, Central America, South America and Spain.
After teaching Spanish at Rotan High School, San Benito Junior High, and Kingsville High School, she completed her teaching career as assistant professor of Spanish at Texas A & I University (now Texas A & M Kingsville). Miss Schiller held offices at local, area and state levels in several professional organizations, and won various honors, including the Delta Kappa Gamma State Achievement Award and the Don Quixote Award for meritorious service in American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. She was named Honorary Life Member of Texas Foreign Language Association and Member Emeritus of AATSP.
Retiring from teaching in 1980, Miss Schiller returned to Caldwell to live with her sister, Dorothy French. She was an active Elder in the Presbyterian Church, and an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Burleson County Historical Society, the Burleson St. Joseph Health Center Auxiliary, and the Caldwell Retired Teachers Association.
Miss Schiller is survived by her nephew Mark Emerson French and his wife Thelma, of Fresno, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. French.

Pat and I married Sept 19,1959 and have been on a honeymoon for almost 49 years. We have 3 childen and 7 grandchildren . I love every one of them. I guess I am part Irish Gypsy. I work around the world for different Companies exploring for oil , gas and other minerals. I have the greatest job in the world. I retired for 6 months but discovered I was not ready for a rocking chair so I went back to work. I don't have a firm retirement date in mind. I love what I do . I am working off the coast of Equatorial Guinea now . Eg is a small Arfican country which was ruled by Spain for many years. Their first language is Spanish. There are few domestic problems here because they believe in corporal punishment . The criminals here do not have any rights except to be executed quickly. It is a lot safer place to work than New Orleans,La.
