Robert Bonner

After graduating from Rice in Physics, went to grad school in Biophysics at Johns Hopkins, married, spent two postdoc years at Max Planck Institut in Goettingen, Germany, returned to a permanent research scientist position at National Institutes of Health (last 36 years), lived in Washington DC, active in local community (elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner). Inventor of medical instruments using lasers, researcher in medical applications of optics. Suitemate in jr year of Rice with Carl (Chip) Novotny (class 64). Kept in touch over the years with Hugh Brown (65) a neighbor and fellow Rice Physics BA. My son Chad graduated from Columbia, went into Peace Corps in Madagascar, works in health informatics, married and father of an infant son. Daughter Renata has a small business in the Central Valley of California. I remarried in 2008. Wife Laurie has a 20yr old son Carlos. I recently retired but continue consulting and research. Trustee of Cooperative Empowerment Network Haiti and active at All Souls UU in Washington DC.
