Today's Featured Biography
Joe Casas
JOE H. CASAS – CLASS OF 1964
Wife: Pat – 5 children – Doug, Kristi, Joseph, Jeffrey and Justin. 9 grand daughters,4 grandsons and 2 great grandsons.
Joe was a member of the National Honor Society in 1961, 1962 and 1963.
He was a three time all District defensive linebacker and offensive running back, 1961, 1962, 1963
Named to the Texas All State Football Team as a running back 1963.
Dumas High School Fighting Demon Award 1963-64 school year
Football Texas State Champions 1961, 1962 State Quarter Finalist 1963
Basketball Texas State Champions 1961
Participated in State Track Meet in Austin, Texas in 1961, 1962, 1963
Joe received a football scholarship to the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico
While at U.N.M. 1964 to 1967, Joe started every game and was named to the All Western Athletic Conference football team as a running back and defensive back in 1966 and 1967.
In 1967 He was #1 in the Nation in Kickoff returns and was named to the All American Team.
In 1967 he also placed 4th in the Nation in punt returns.
Joe holds the record at U.N.M. in kickoff returns with a 99 yard return against Idaho State in 1967
In 1967 Joe received the Col .H.J. Golightly Memorial Award for being the outstanding defensive football player of the year. .
Joe graduated with a BS degree in Science in May 1968, Began his teaching and coaching career at Roswell High school, in Roswell, New Mexico in June of 1968, teaching Biology and coaching football.
In 1970 He moved to Clovis High school in Clovis, New Mexico to become the Defensive Coordinator in football.
In 1971 he would become the Defensive Coordinator in football, Head Track Coach and Biology teacher at Odessa High school in Odessa, Texas.
Joe retired from the Odessa school system on May 31, 2014.
In 2015 he was honored by being inducted into the “Dumas Demon Wall of Honor”.
We love to travel and take many road trips.
(Joe was known as the “ROAD RUNNER” by the late Ken Duke with KDDD radio station).
