Today's Featured Biography
Jack Vanderpool
After high School, Jack graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1967 with a degree in Animal Husbandry and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. He took ROTC and planned to attend Veterinary school at Auburn University after completing his 2-year commitment in the Army. He enjoyed Army life and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1988. Jack married Beth Holland, from Old Hickory. They have been married for 45 years. They have 2 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, 5 grand children, and one more grand baby on the way.
While in the Army, Jack was an Army Ranger, serving as a commander and staff officer in Korea and commanded 2 combat infantry companies in Vietnam. He trained as an intelligence officer, commanded an intelligence company, a recruiting command, and served as a combat intelligence systems developer. While serving in the Republic of Panama, Jack was responsible for Intelligence Analysis for Central and South America. He received several awards from the U.S. Army and Dept of Defense for superior achievement and heroism. He and his family have enjoyed living in many places and meeting many people during his military career.
Following Army retirement, Jack was a contactor for the Defense Intelligence Agency. For 20 years, he served as a strategic planner developing intelligence operational architectures. His most difficult challenge came after the attack on the Pentagon and Trade Centers. He developed a plan to form a single unified organization that would assume command and oversee all Army Reserve Intelligence units in the U.S. This task took 7 years. Jack retired from government service and the Lockheed Martin Corporation in 2008.
Jack and Beth now live in Dallas, GA in the rustic log home they started planning to build before they were married. Jack was the gcneral Contractor and completed construction in 9 months for their 30th anniversary gift to each other. “Shady Acres” sits in the midst of 13 wooded acres. Jack enjoys building furniture in his workshop and “playing in the dirt” propagating plants.
Jack serves as a Deacon and Elder in the Church of Christ and he has served on the Board for Arlington Christian School in Atlanta. He now serves as an Elder for the West Metro Church of Christ in Hiram, GA and Trustee for the Trujillo Christian School, Trujillo Honduras. Jack travels to Honduras several times a year to coordinate school matters. The past three years, on the summer trip, he has enjoyed the company of Walter Graham (1961) and other alumni of Dupont High School and of Old Hickory Boy Scout Troop 68).
