Today's Featured Biography
Bobby Hollingsworth
Bob graduated from MTSU in 1961 with a B.S. in Art Education, and in 1973 with an M.A. from Peabody College. He married August of '61 to Joyce Rudd who attended DuPont for two years before transferring to Trevecca. Bob began his teaching career at Two Rivers High School in Donelson. While teaching Art, Bob followed his music interest as Choir Director at Hermitage United Methodist Church for 29 years. He and Joyce still sing in the Choir.
Bob retired from Metro after teaching for 31 years at Two Rivers and McGavock High School. He and Joyce then purchased a business that Bob had worked for at Opryland USA for 14 years, and they changed the name to Kwik Sketch, Inc. They provided caricature and airbrush artists for the Opryland USA Theme Park, as well as for gigs, conventions, and parties in the Middle Tennessee area. That business basically ended when Opryland closed for good in 1997. After that brief business adventure, Bob started teaching Art at Donelson Christian Academy in the fall of 1998. He retired from DCA in June of 2007. After teaching High School for "Forty Years", it was time to get out of High School.
Since his retirement, he and Joyce have had more time to follow their hobby and interest of 18th Century Living History. They volunteer their time, living as English settlers in the year 1779 at Mansker's Station, located in Moss Wright Park in Goodlettsville, also at Rock Castle in Hendersonville, and The Bledsoe Colonial Fair. This seems to be a natural regression due to Bob having trouble passing the second half of American History in college, and he does have historical roots growing up as he did, at "The Hermitage, Home of Andrew Jackson."
Bob and Joyce have two sons-James Lindsey (Lin) who lives in England (US Air Force) with his family. His three children are Grant, Keith and Rachael (Twins). The other son, Robert Ashley and his family live behind Bob and Joyce's house. He has two children, Evan and Maggie.
Bob says, "Growing up where I did -- with the friends I had, and when I did -- grows more precious to me each passing day. As I look back at my own history, it gives me a confident sense of direction as I journey into the future. I wish to express thanks to God, Mom and Dad, all my friends (old and new), a place called 'DuPont High School', and my daily devoted companion of '49 years', Joyce!"
