Homer Flatt

Shortly after high school, Homer went to work at Ford Glass Plant and worked there until August, 1968. In 1963 he had decided that Plant life was not for him and started pursuing further education by attending class during the day and working the afternoon shift, 4:00-12:30. Homer was able to graduate in 4 calendar years completing my B.S. at Peabody College inBusinessEducation/Management in 1967. In 1968 he left Ford and went to work for a CPA firm composed of 4 CPA/Attys. Being a Management Major he needed additional credits to sit for the CPA exam. Homer moved to Murfreesboro and started work on a Masters or MBA while preparing for the CPA exam. Homer says " I got lucky on the exam and never really got into the graduate courses. (While we lived there Judy got her first Masters)." Homer worked in Public Accounting for 5 years before leaving to work for a Real Estate/Mortgage Banking firm. He worked as Controller, Treasurer, and CFO for various companies until late 1986 when he left to work on his own doing contract consulting and tax work with numerous companies. In 2001 Homer consciously started divesting a lot of his clients to
oversee a rather large venture that he had helped an
expatriate client put together for his homeland in Middle
Asia. Some of the initial contracts had been inked and
the project had been announced on National TV in that
country, but when the Iraq war started this venture had
to be halted for security and other reasons. Since
retirement is not currently for Homer, he has begun
seeking projects in Forensic and Bankruptcy accounting.
In 1964 Homer married Judy Yearwood (David Lipscomb HS & undergrad) and they have 2 sons (Curtis, 1966) and (Andy, 1970) who live nearby in Franklin and Spring Hill. They have 2 grandchildren who live in Franklin, TN. Homer and Judy enjoy traveling and have traveled to many foreign countries and especially enjoy Cairo and Alexandria Egypt where we have many friends as a result of Judy’s working with National Schools seeking Accreditation for their American Diploma Programs. (You can see pictures of some of our travels either on Judy’s Facebook page or at www.omegainternationalpro.org). Homer says, "We are fortunate in that we occasionally get concert tickets
from our sons who work in the entertainment world. The
highlight of these was prime tickets to the Eric Clapton
concert when our older son was mixing FOH (front of
house) for his tour (he didn't share his McCartney tickets
with us)."
