Today's Featured Biography
Bill Hardie
Left PR in June '69, and Dad retired that month. Parents ended up in Chattanooga, and sent me to a two semester party at Oklahoma State. Who knew about classes?
Back in Chattanooga, I got a job with a low powered, low rent radio station, but I was allowed to play anything I wanted, so I had a ball. For the next seven years, I bounced through a few different radio and tv stations. I have Carlos to thank for my interest in broadcasting. I don't think I'd ever had as much fun getting paid for what I did.
To continue education, I found I had a knack for computer programming, so I obtained an associates degree and began a real career. I spent about 27 years (working for four different companies) until I found out at age 50 they'd pay me to not work, so I retired. That's pronounced "Reeeeetarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd".
The woman that I was lucky enough to find for my wife has put up with me ever since, and we have two children that can stand on their own and have no problems speaking their minds. We're still working on the idea of "tact".
Something I suppose I should mention. When my son was almost waist high, we were watching The Flintstones on a saturday morning. He turned to me and told me that he wanted to go bowling (Fred Flinstone bowling.... you get the picture). I tried to explain that it was different than he thought. He was adamant, so I took him to the bowling alley closest to the house.
Turned out he enjoyed it, got the idea pretty quick and I signed him up for the youth league. During his first season, the guy that was running the league suggested we put him in a city wide tournament. He ended up with a trophy taller than he was.
The short of all that is that during the subsequent years, I ended up involved in being a bowing coach. They gave me a book about how to coach, and I followed the directions. I coached for about 20 years, and as I look back at it now, it amazes me. Both my kids are long out of the youth league, but I kept going back there every saturday morning, regardless of how good the surf was.
I just never pictured myself doing anything of the kind.
------
My time at Ramey is still special to me, as are all the people that I got to know and be friends with.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
