Today's Featured Biography
John Bain
After graduation I attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York (seriously cold in winter), graduating with a degree in Physics in 1963. Married Elizabeth Wineburgh in the same year, and worked for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company for three years, saving up the titanic sum of $10,000 which, with the help of my wife, was enough to get me through the MBA program at the Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania. Had two children, worked for (the "old" AT&T) at 195 Broadway in New York for another 10 years. Got divorced in 1977, quit AT&T job to move to Wall Street in 1979.
Remarried in 1983 to current wife Elaine. Worked on Wall Street for 23 years, trying to figure out how to get rich in the stock market. Could not figure that out, and was "retired" (read "booted out") of the stockbroker racket in 1989, and decided to retire. Sailed our 40 foot sailboat down the Atlantic, to a marina berth leased to me by former classmate George "Yank" Amerman. Discovered Elaine was pregnant (that happens after 9 months together on a sailboat, I guess). Sailed up to St. Petersburg Florida to take yet another job on "Wall Street." Moved again to Dallas, Texas to take a corporate job, company went bust, on the curb (retired again) in 2001. Gave up on Wall Street (well before the crash -- it's not my fault!) and got into the teaching racket in 2002. Currently in my 11th year as a High School Mathematics teacher, currently teaching the International Baccalaureate mathematics curriculum at a private school in Farmers Branch, Texas (a suburb of Dallas). Not wishing to retire (to do what? Play golf?) I plan to keep working until I can no longer do it (some days that seems like it might be tomorrow). Oldest son Robert is a computer programmer in Boulder, Colorado. Middle son John is a logistics manager in Asn Diego, Youngest son Eljon (contraction of Elaine and John, his parents) is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and currently a professional percussion teacher and performer (that means he pound on drums for a living).
Life is good, or at least a lot better than the alternative.
-- John Bain

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
