Today's Featured Biography
Gloria Prince Blankenship
My family and I moved to Claremore when I was in Fourth Grade. I grew up in a disfunctional family. My father was an alcoholic and my mother suffered from depression. I had eight siblings - six of them older and two younger. (I have lost two brothers). I had trouble fitting in socially because I was more worried about family issues. When I was thirteen, my father died of emphysema and my mother followed three years later with cancer. At sixteen I was forced to find a place to live. I moved in with Barbara Costas' mother. She already had seven children. Mrs. Cantrell was very kind to me, but did not force any structure in her home. I took advantage of the sitution and went through a very "wild" time. I regret that today. I am sure that most saw me as "wild", but few ever really got to know me.
Despite this shaky beginning, I was determined to go to college. I finished OSU in 1985 with a fashion merchandising degree. (worthless).
I met and married my husband in 1988 and we now have three children. (two biological children and one adopted child) All are excellent students and wonderful young people. My son, Andrew was just elected, "Sophomore Boy of the Year" at South Intermediate High School in Broken Arrow. There were over 300 Sophomore boys to choose from.
I went back to college to receive my second degree in 1989, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and began teaching social studies to 7th and 8th Grade students in 1992. I love teaching despite its difficulties. As a teacher, I decided that I would reach out to the students who need me. I, myself struggled socially in school so it is important to me to help make all students feel successful and accepted. After I lost both of my parents, not one single teacher or counselor discussed this tragedy with me. As a result, I have made it my mission to get involved in students' lives and to help them through their struggles. I often share with them that people can be very successful even if others do not believe in them. This love of teaching has earned me site "Teacher of the Year" and Broken Arrow Finalist twice in my educational career.
I love God with all of my heart and I am sure that he carried me through all of the tragedies of my early years and he stays with me to allow my success today.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
