Today's Featured Biography
Jim Vecchio
My lovely wife, Kathy, passed away on April 7th, 2013. I went back to work full time On January 1st, 2014 as Northeast Regional Sales Manager for Foss, a Danish manufacturer of scientific instruments used in the food and agricultural industry for quality assurance. From 2009 until 2012 I was the National Sales Manager for Oxford Instruments, manufacturer of benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance analyzers for the QC and research laboratory. I worked out of the North American corporate headquarters in Concord, Mass. Prior to that I was Marketing Manager for Koch Membrane Systems for seven years, and spent 19 years with Setra Systems as Sales Manager, Marketing Manager, and finally, VP of Sales and Marketing. Setra was a privately held company that developed, manufactured, and sold multiple lines of industrial scales and laboratory balances. I helped build the weighing systems division of Setra from a start-up to a profitable multi-million dollar operation that we sold to Danaher Corporation in 2001.
I received a BS in Biology from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Penn. in 1974 and married Kathy Sheehan from Concord, Mass. the same year. We built a house in Concord and have lived here since 1987. I went to Bentley College nights for several years to get my MBA in marketing.
I have two married children, Daniel, who received a PhD in Philosophy from Marquette University in Milwaukee, and Veronica, an attorney with a law firm in Denver. I have four granddaughters, three with Veronica and Christopher, and one with Dan and Gabby.
Kathy, my wife, had been an elementary school teacher most of her life. She struggled with uterine cancer for several years before her death in 2013.
I have had several different interests over the years. I coached Little League, was a Cub Scout Master, and a member of a local 18th century historical organization called the Concord Minute Men. Today most of my free time is taken up with ballroom dancing. On May 9th, 2016 I became engaged to Ysaura Ormsby of Concord, MA. We have not yet set a date for the wedding.
