Michael Dunfield

I joined the Army Reserve in January 1964 with Rudy Grossman, Jerry Johnson and Ron Richenbach. We arrived at Fort Ord California over the 4th of July weekend. Very pensive all the different types of individuals we met, we just the kids from Montana, not too deep into other life styles! We were all made acting squad leaders or sergeant as we took our Basic Training, all of us except Rudy then went to Fort Sill Oklahoma for Field Artillery Training. This experience really thrust us into adulthood. For me it inspired me to make a career of the Army. I retired from the US Army after 34 years in July 1997 at Fort Huachuca, AZ. I had served for 6 years as an enlisted soldier and then after receiving my commission I served for 27 additional years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel (I had been promoted to Colonel but I had some very serious medical problems that forced me to retire early and reverted to LTC) The lady that processed my retirement was very shocked that someone would stay in the Army that long and wanted to know "how I could stay so long?" I related to her that I loved every minute of it." I and my wife Carol (Retired Educator) now live in Layton Utah. Our two daughters and their families live in Des Moines, IA. My oldest daughter works for Wells Fargo Bank in their Mortgage Department and my youngest daughter is a Managing Nurse in a large Hospital. Life has very interesting and I have traveled to lots of very interesting places and always related that to Billings. I wish the best to all of my friends from BSHS64.
