Today's Featured Biography
MARY JANE BRIGHT MEANS
After graduating from Raytown, I started dating Glenn Means, from our class. In the fall I entered William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. Glenn was a Freshman at MU. Back then Freshmen were not allowed cars on campus. William Woods would not allow cars at all. Glenn and I would ride the Greyhound Bus when we would go home on breaks. It was on one of those rides when he proposed to me, on a Greyhound Bus.
When I graduated from college with an Associate Art degree I started working for Platte Pipe Line in Kansas City as a Secretary to the Comptroller of the company.
Glenn continued working on his Geology Degree at MU and also was in ROTC. His senior year we decided to get married. After he graduated our first girl (Elizabeth) was born.
He became a Second Lt. and we were stationed in Germany for the next 3 years where our second daughter (Anne) was born. After Germany Glenn was stationed at Ft.Bragg. After a back injury and having surgery, he decided to leave the Army and continue working for the government back in K.C.
In 1970 our son (Stephen) was born and I continued being an at-home-mom until our oldest was a senior in high school. Decided I better start working in order to help get these kids through college. I worked for various companies around K.C. After Stephen graduated from CMSU, I decided it was time for me to "retire". A few years after I "retired", Glenn took an early retirement.
We built our new house 12 years ago in north Blue Springs, after living in our first house for almost 30 years.
In 2001-2002 Glenn became the Grand Master of Masons in Missouri. We traveled a lot throughout the state. In Feb. of 2002 he became the Exec. Secretary of the Grand Masters Conference of North America. The Conference is held every February in various states and in Canada. It's a large Conference with over 800 attending. I do the registration for the Conference. We do a lot of traveling with the Conference and meet a lot of wonderful people.
Our oldest Elizabeth is the Principle at Grandview Belvidere Elementary and working on her Doctorate. Anne and her husband (Mark Turner) own and operate The Village at Indian Point (condos in Branson). Anne has several Masters Degrees in education but is home schooling our grandaughter(Madeline). They also have a son (Nicholas). Our son Stephen, wife (Heidi) and two boys (Patrick and Connor) live in Allen, Texas where he works for Honeywell Corporation. Needless to say we take a lot of trips to Texas.
