Today's Featured Biography

JoAnn Hess Immele

Began working in a secretarial position in the summer of 1969 before beginning school at UMKC. I attended UMKC for 2 years before going full-time in the real world with my own apartment just off of the Plaza in KC.

Married Chris Immele, a full-time musician, in 1974. Chris was a member of a "show-band" which gave us the opportunity to travel all over the US. Eventually, I was given the job of light and sound technician and gave the band their "look" and monitored the sound, effects, etc. Looking back, it was one of my most favorite jobs. Met a lot of interesting people and some are our good friends today.

By the time the 1980's rolled around, we were ready to take the leap to parenthood. Our first child, Matthew, was born in 1981, but through complications of his birth, survived only 6 days. Our oldest daughter Sarah, came along in 1982 with our youngest daughter, Katie following in 1985.

The years have quickly passed, lots of softball games, PTA meetings, Girl Scout meetings and campouts, and many band trips and festivals later our daughters have grown into wonderful young women. Sarah was married in March of 2009 and will begin her Masters in the Social Work program at MU the fall of 2009. Katie is in her second year of graduate school at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.

Chris and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary in July of 2009 and will be together no matter what, that's what we promised all those years ago. Chris still plays his music, but for fun now instead of for a paycheck. I work full-time as an Administrative Assistant, and I am active with the Historic Preservation Commission in Grandview MO. I have helped establish National Registry Historic Residential District as well as a Conservation Historical District in the orginial downtown. I owe my 8th grade history teacher, Mr. Sheppard, all the credit for giving me the urge to always learn about our past and preserve it where needed.

We also enjoy baseball and attend as many Royals games as we can each year. Our daughter Katie took her softball talent to college. She was the centerfielder for Park University from 2003-2007. To say we missed watching her play when the time came was an understatement. Music and sports, that's what our little family is all about. We have a good time at whatever we're doing!
