I married Leon in December 1963. He was a student teacher at LHS in the fall of 1962. We lived in Grand Valley, CO. (now named Parachute, Co.) until June 1965. Our first son, Dean, was born in Rifle, CO. Leon taught and coached there for two years, then we moved to Opelousas where he taught and coached for 9 years. Kendon and Molly were born there. I was a homemaker then. We moved to DeRidder in 1974 and Leon taught and coached there for 8 years. I took a job as a sub-rural mail carrier there. Darla was placed with us as a foster child when she was eight while we were there. Leon got the job as head track and field coach at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches in August of '82 and we have been here ever since. I was placed as a regular rural mail carrier here about two weeks after moving here. It bacame obvious as time passed, that all my children were getting college degrees--my husband had two--and as the only non-degreed person in the family, I felt stupid. So in 1989, I began work on my degree. I attended classes at night, on Saturdays at Fort Polk, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I could, eventually earning a degree in English with minors in History and Theater in 1994. I continued to work full time and didn't get a great deal of sleep, but I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I wrote a column for the newspaper for several years on the history of Latin and Greek in English. I also co-authored a textbook on Latin and Greek elements in English with Dr. Jean D'Amato for her class she taught at the Scholar's College, which is a part of NSU. That's enough for now. I have nine grandchildren-Loren; working on a Master's degree at LSU and teaching physiology-Keagan in her third year at ULL-Lindsay in her second year at McNeese-Morgan, a sophmore at Captain Shreve in Shreveport-Lillie, an eighth grader at Urey Drive Middle School in Shreveport--These are all Dean's children. Devon, in seventh grade at Negreet School in Many--only child of Darla, by choice. Wanting to have at least six children of my own, this always seemed strange to me, but I learned a long time ago to allow my children to be independent. Molly has three--Laney, a second grader at Eden Gardens Magnet School in Shreveport-Liam, a kindergartener at the same school-Keller, a four years old hurricane. Life is good. But heaven will be better.
At present, I am enjoying life. I attended the Womens College World Series in Oklahoma this summer, (2012), am planning a trip to Tennessee to engage in ancestry investigation, and also see more of grandkids--they also have things to do and it is sometimes difficult to plan things. Kendon lives in Germany but will be home for his yearly one month stay soon. He is a guidance counselor at an American School on Hoehsfeld Army Base in Bavaria. Dean teaches at Natchitoches Central High and coaches at NSU. Darla stays busy at home in Many helping also at her husbands business and Molly teaches music in Mansfield. She and her husband live in Shreveport. She is married to Carol Anne Skerrits nephew, Lance Fouts. When they started dating, they had no idea that his mom and her mom went to the same high school in Lafayette. Elaine

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
