Today's Featured Biography
Adam Warnecke
after the high school, i went to study music theory and composition at ku, which was, let's say, unproductive from an academic standpoint. because i was very impatient at the time, and have always been something of a results oriented person, i moved on to other more immediate pursuits (read: sex, drugs, rock and roll).
i began cooking professionally, and within a few years had built quite a resume; with the right equipment, i can do pretty much anything in regards to food. due to my habit of consistently showing up on time, i soon found myself mostly occupying management-type positions, which is fine, if you like to work tons of hours for not very much remuneration.
this whole time, i had been developing my own social business models and wrote several grant proposals for everything from a traditional bar/restaurant to a vertical, and vertically integrated urban agriculture solution for the twenty-first century. however, after applying for a few grants and several business loans, i realized that with no piece of paper from a university saying that i's got smarts and no funds in my bank accounts, i would always be shut down, no matter how much the loan officer agreed that my ideas were not only socially and technologically ambitious, but fiscally sound. i decided it was time to explore other avenues.
so, at the ripe young age of thirty-one, i went to united states navy boot camp just north of chicago. i am currently serving in the the united states navy ceremonial guard in washington dc (i'll be one of the guys in the background at the next inauguration), and will attend an advanced electronics school in san diego when i am done here. i will have a bachelor of science degree by the end of my first enlistment, and when i choose to leave, i will qualify for business loans only open to veterans. i refer to all of this as "square cred."
then maybe they'll let me build the skyscrapers full of food that i see in my mind's eye.
oh yeah, and i still write music.
