Sonja Staum

me - well, I went to the University of Evansville for a year after high school and was completely, absolutely miserable - thank you Candi Haley and Lisa Clemons for rescuing me and bringing me back to Bton! I took a few years off from school after that and worked full time - long enough to know that I really wanted to return to school - and I havent left the academic environment yet :)

I completed a BA in Fine Arts (studio) IUB, 1984; MFA (painting/drawing) UGA, 1986; and MLS (Art Libraries/Special Collections) IUB, 1989. I moved back to Chicago (originally from Chicago) for my first professional position as the Museum Librarian at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. I moved back to Indiana in 1994. I have served on the library faculty at IUPUI since 1995. I hold a tenured library faculty position and am the Director of the Herron Art Library, http://www.ulib.iupui.edu/herron. I also teach a grad level class for the IUPUI School of Library and Information Science covering digital collections/initiatives. I love my job!!!

I have two sons, Nate 15 yrs and Lucas 12 yrs. My older son Nate is very athletic and a typical teenager - quite the character! My younger son, Lucas, is a special needs child (microcephalic), full of love and joy. Lucas has taught me a great deal about the true value of life. My free time is primarily spent getting my older son, Nate, to his hockey and/or football games and/or practices. I also train for distance races and try to run 3-4 long races per year plus a number of shorter races as well. This past year my training has been down due to Nate's athletic activities - I've spent a lot of time at either football fields or ice rinks over the past year - looking forward to getting some miles/races in now that football is over :) I still paint/draw when I can (watercolor and pastels).
