James (Jim) Hennessey

I am an artist (a painter) and retired College Professor. I have been married for 25 years to Dr. Pamela Potter-Hennessey. Pam is an Art Historian. I have two grown children, James D. and Mary Margaret, and three grandchildren.
I attended Illinois Wesleyan University (with Ian Short & Harry Lovell of our class). BFA 1958, MFA University of Colorado 1960. Member of the Fine Arts Faculty, U.of I. 1960-65. I was awarded the Rome Prize of the American Academy in Rome, for two years residency 1962-1965. Moved to Baltimore in 1965, with a faculty appointment to The Maryland Institute, College of Art, until retirement in 2002. My work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, N.Y. and other museums and galleries in the U.S., Italy and France. Pam and I were Co-Directors of a summer program for art students in Sorrento, Italy for five years. We've traveled often and extensively in Europe -- most frequently to Italy, France and Ireland. Since retiring, I was appointed Director of a Residency Program for mature artists at the Chateau of Rochefort-en-Terre in Brittany. In both 2006 and 2007 I spent 7 months in France at the Chateau. Currently, I'm continuing to work in my studio in Baltimore.
