Today's Featured Biography
Donald Baker
I have held out for all these many years but for those that are left to read it in August 2023 here it is;
Joined the USAF in 1954. Trained and served as an Avionics Instrument System Technician and Supervisor. Served in Nebraska,England. Missouri, Philippines, Texas, Thailand, Oregon, N. Dakota, Korea, Arizona, and retired after five moves in five years. I retired because I received orders to Illinois and Georgia at the same time. Don't know if they were trying to get rid of me or needed me.
A hard life for my family, but I learned much and miss the Air Force even today.
I am 88 years old and have lost three of my children and my wife. I miss them much as well.
After 35 years working for the Air Force I was employed as an Avionics Quality Control Inspector for three years with Dyncorp who held the contract to do aircraft maintenance for the USAF. Then I worked as a Tech building and calibrating Optical Printers and Copy Cameras. After that it was Wafer Polishing Machines for the Electronic Industry. Then I worked for my son Michael, building Cabinets. (learned wood working there in Fountain Hills Az). Before retiring for good, I was an Instrument repair Tech for an Aircraft Parts Co. in Chandler Az. I stayed there nine years working on general aviation systems.
I wish to add here my appreciation to knowing a couple of super teachers at OHS. I know there were many but Irvin Lathrop and Harvey "Gabby" Ware are memorable in my mind as outstanding educators. I was privileged to have been in their classes. Mr. Lathrop taught me Vocational Printing and Gabby Ware taught me Biology
While in printing class my friend Bill and I would sometimes, during squirrel hunting season, sort of miss that class. Mr. Lathrop knew what was up. But, Bill and I would help him on the week-ends with the school printing needs he was tasked to do. Also, there was the time, right after his marriage to Eleanor Kolar, (Girls Athletic Director) he brought in some material for curtains. Bill and I helped him Silk Screen Flowers on them.
I was honored to be president of Gabbys Biology class. Gabby died in August of 1998 at the young age of 74.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
