Today's Featured Biography
Nancy Moore Blanchard
OWASSO, OKLAHOMA –
Nancy Ruth (Moore) Blanchard, born June 24, 1935, in Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away after a long illness on March 3, 2017, at home in Owasso, in the presence of family.
Mrs. Blanchard received a BSN nursing degree from Drake University/ Iowa Methodist Hospital nursing program in Des Moines.
Nancy met and married the love of her life, Merlin (Blade) Blanchard, while both were working at St. Louis City Hospital. They subsequently moved to Tulsa where Blade began his long career at St. John Medical Center and Nancy raised their four children. She returned to nursing with the Oklahoma Research Foundation. After achieving a Certification in Gerontological Nursing, she became the Director of Nursing of a nursing home. Nancy retired from nursing in 1996.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband and her daughter, Anne Marie Blanchard Grove (Kent), and her sisters Mary Lou Foster and Celia Ann Mansberger.
Nancy will be missed by her children Timothy Blanchard (Peg Manning) of Orcas Island, WA, Gregory Blanchard (Sheryl) of Uniontown, OH, and Mary Blanchard Calhoun (Charles) of Owasso, and by her grandchildren, Alison and Joshua Blanchard, Blake and Brock Calhoun, and Wesley and Ryan Grove.
Nancy was a long-time member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, performing in various choirs and serving throughout the church in a number of areas including teaching youth and adult Sunday School, directing the youth group, delivering services tapes to and visiting with church shut-ins, and volunteering in the church office to name a few.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: The Susan G. Komen Foundation for Cancer Research, Restore Hope Ministries, or the charity of your choice.
