Today's Featured Biography
Eric Wylie
In the fall of 1989 I moved on to Morningside College in Sioux City. After 4 years of heavy involvement in the Mass Communications and Music departments at Morningside, I spent the summer of 1993 as a fill-in announcer on Lite 104.1 when the studios were still in Ames.
Next, nearly 2 years were spent at KTIV TV (4 NBC) in Sioux City as a Commercial and Creative Services Producer -- writing, shooting, editing -- doing pretty much everything related to commercials, promotions and PSAs, plus set design and construction, telethons and public events.
While still in Sioux City I started a 9 year relationship with MCI -- which later became MCI-WorldCom, and then WorldCom. I started out as a video producer, but by the time I was done (and near the time that WorldCom became known as WorldBomb for the bankruptcy and related corruption) I was the Employee Communications Manager for one of the software engineering teams. Imagine trying to keep ahead of the news that was breaking online faster than it could be discovered internally. I moved from Sioux City, IA to Omaha, NE to Cedar Rapids, IA during my time with MCI/WorldCom.
Since leaving WorldCom in 2004, I've been self-employed as a Corporate Communications consultant, media producer and voiceover artist. I assist businesses of all sizes, creating strategic communications plans and helping internal teams execute on those plans. I also spend my days creating PowerPoint presentations, Web Sites, and audio and video productions. I also record a lot of voiceovers for radio, TV, training videos and telephone systems.
I met my wife Krista while still in Sioux City. She was home visiting her folks in her senior year at Simpson College. The dating became serious enough to coordinate a move to Omaha. We were engaged in 1997 and married in July of 1998 at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Just one year later my work brought us to Cedar Rapids, were we currently live.
Our son, Nathan, was born in November of 2000 and our daughter, Rachel, was born in June of 2004. At the time of this writing, if you want to know anything about Pokemon or Star Wars - Nathan Wylie is your man. Rachel enjoys getting in her brother's way and displaying her general cuteness.
The kids keep us busy, along with involvement at our church, Lovely Lane UMC in Cedar Rapids.
At church I am the chariperson of the music committee and active as a vocal soloist and choir member, writer/producer/planner for the annual financial stewardship campaign and lots of other activities. I recently produced a widely-distributed video demonstrating the contributions of United Methodists responding to the massive flooding we experienced in Cedar Rapids in June of 2008. My wife Krista is involved in the church Handbell Choir and teaches children's Sunday School.
I'm looking forward to the reunion in 2009!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
