Today's Featured Biography
Richard Duwe
Let me start off by extending my thanks to Billy Marks (may we still call you Billy?) for his continued efforts in setting up and maintaining this site. Up until the reunion in 2007, I hadn't seen Billy in 37 years. Even now, I still get a chuckle every time I think about him. Of course, that's probably because we had PE together our freshman year, and I seem to recall his legs looked like two pipe cleaners in a pair of gym shorts.
So what have I been up to? Here's a short synopsis: If my name's not familiar to you it's because my father retired from the Air Force during my sophomore year at Vanden. In a matter of days I found myself transplanted from Travis AFB to a wide spot in the road known as China Spring, TX, a little "one horse" town where I can honestly say I've never seen so many inbred people in one place at the same time. If they were to ever make a sequel to "Deliverance," China Spring would be a good place to hold the casting call. In fact, China Spring HS was the only school I ever attended where your 1st cousin was considered a "full service" prom date.
Even though Travis AFB was 1800 miles away, the Air Force was still very much a part of me, and I found myself enlisting a few weeks after leaving high school. And would you believe it? The day I showed up for my enlistment physical in Dallas, I bumped into Walter King in the processing station. Small world, ain't it?
Twenty years later, I retired as a Master Sergeant and still didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up. After graduating from Regis University in Denver, I went back to work for the Air Force as a Space Systems Analyst with the US Air Force Space Command at Peterson AFB, CO. From there I did some time with Oracle and MCI in Colorado before moving to north Idaho.
I'm currently the "IT guy" at a small FedEx feeder airline in Hayden ID and looking forward to my third (and final) attempt at retirement in the next few years. I was also an adjunct instructor at a local junior college in Spokane WA for 12 years. OK, you can quit laughing now. Yes, I was a teacher. Consider it an act of contrition for all the rotten things I did to my teachers at Golden West and Vanden.
