Today's Featured Biography
Michael Armstrong
I joined the Army in June 1972 - Returned to Fairfield in June 1975 after 3 years in Germany. I moved to Sacramento in 1976 with John Hensley, Fast Freddie Andres went to Sac City College and then to Sac State and graduated in 1981 with a BA in history. I joined Army ROTC during my time at CSUS and was commissioned in 1981 as a Field Artillery Officer. I have served around the world since then, including Korea, 7 years in Germany and environs. I now am the Technical Director for Joint Exercises, wargames and Models and Simulations in Norfolk VA at the US Joint Forces Command.
I was married in 1983 to a girl I met at Sac State, we have two children Charlie- 16 and Tommy 14. We are 1 year or so away from retirement. I was fortunate enough to be promoted to Colonel and attend The Air War College in 2002. We currently live near Virginia Beach. I am active with the Boy Scouts, still riding motorcycles, golfing and playing with my 2 lovely setters-an English and Gordon. I tour and study the local Civil War (War of Northern Aggression if you prefer or are a local) battlefields frequently (there are lots of them in Va). I'm looking forward to the next reunion, I have special memories of the times and friends from Vanden and have visited the school often on leave when back in the area. Most of my family is still in the Fairfield area. I will stay here in Virginia after I retire and work in the Model and Simulation Industry in some capacity. Virginia has an excellent and cheap College and University system (like California) and my Wife teaches here so will be here until I can buy a cabin or shack near a golf course in the Sierras, or the Blue Ridge Mts.
I retire on 1 Aug after 32 years service. I have a position with Booz Allen Hamilton and am working in the Model and Simulations industry in the Hampton Roads area. I am fortunate to have had such luck in my career. I am always glad to find old friends from Vanden. We all seem to have weathered the 60's and 70's quite well - and have thrived.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
