After graduating from high school, I enrolled in Sacramento City College. In May of 1965 I became a member of the Operating Engineers, and was a heavy equipment operator. In April of 1966 I joined the US Army just 3 days before I was to be drafted. I was sent to Fort Polk, Louisiana for my basic training and from there I was sent to Fort Belvoir, Virginia for my AIT training. I was then assigned to headquarters battalion 65th Combat Engineers 25th Infantry Division in Cu Chi, Vietnam. After one year deployment I was returned to the states in November of 1966.
On November 18th, 1966 my wife and I (Barbara Aarseth, class of 66, Elk Grove) were married. I was then assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington and then sent for a short 90 day stay in Fort Knox, Kentucky testing cranes for the US Army. I was released from the Army in April of 1969 in which we moved back to Elk Grove. I began working as a crane operator for Sacramento Valley Crane which was later bought out by Maxim Crane in 1998. I retired from Maxim Crane in August 2001.
We had our first child Wayne in January 1971 and 4 years later a daughter Amanda. Wayne and Amanda have since each married and graced us with 4 grandchildren. Wayne and Gina have Brandon 15 and Nichole 12. Amanda and Mike have Emma 11 and Austin 9. The best part they all live just a few miles away from us and we try to spoil them on a regular basis.
After selling our 11 acre place on Calvine and Vineyard Roads we have since moved to a little five acre ranch in the Wilton area off Montevideo Drive.
Barbara enjoys spending hours and hours playing with her six horses, numerous animals and being a 4-H leader for the Range View 4-H club for over the past 20 years.
Me, I prefer a horse that has keys; my iron horse is a Harley V Rod. I also enjoy collecting horseless carriage cars, we have a 1906 Maxwell touring car and a 1911 Maxwell runabout that we enjoy taking on tours across the United States with our motor home. I am also an avid shooter, a defensive arms instructor and a certified RSO (range safety officer). I also volunteer my time at the Sacramento Shooting Center. On most Saturdays you can find me walking the line and keeping the range safe. My real love is fishing. I try to fish 2-4 days a week. From January to May I'm trout fishing in the lakes or striper fishing in the Delta. From May through September I'm out catching kokanee (landlocked salmon) in many of our local lakes in the area. From September to November I'm in the Delta fishing for stripers and salmon.
It is my goal in life to teach my four grandchildren and friends how to shoot and handle firearms safely and fish with easy limits.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
