Today's Featured Biography
Pamela Catero Hollingsworth
50 years! WOW! Where have they gone?
After graduation I went to Cochise College for a semester and I soon realized college was not for me. What I really wanted to do was to study cosmetology so I enrolled at the Bisbee Beauty School. It was at this time I married my 1st husband. After receiving my license, we moved to Carson City, Nevada. It hadn't taken too much time for me to realize that I had made a huge mistake by marrying so I returned to Bisbee, got a divorce (with the help of Mr. Pintek Sr.) and I moved to Sierra Vista to work with Max Slade. There I met my wonderful husband, Jim. We married in 1969 and have been together for 45 wonderful years. What a time we've had. We raised 3 great children (1 girl and a set of identical twin boys). We have 5 terrific grandchildren (3 boys and 2 girls). In April 2015 we will have 5 great grandchildren (3 girls, 1 boy and ?) ages ranging from newborn to 13.
We owned 2 beauty salons(1 in Sierra Vista and 1 in Phoenix). By the early 1990's I was gettingtired of hairdressing and the electronics field was in a slump, so we decided to change professions and this was the best decision we had ever made. One week after our 30th reunion we left for Salem, Oregon to work for Holiday Retirement Corp (housing for active, independent seniors). We managed 2 communities during our career (1994-2001) achieving every goal set before us from getting and maintaining the census to100% in each building, having happy residents and staff members while staying within our budget limits. We received a 5 Star rating and were put on the Presidential Advisory Council with semi-annual meetings (1week to 10days) in locations such as Mexico, Hawaii, New York City, London and Paris. Our meetings were usually for 1 day and the rest of the time was for sightseeing. Many activities were group activities arranged with the owner of the company and other home office employees. One meeting was on a cruise ship to Alaska. We werenamed managers of the year 2000 and were rewarded with an all-expense paid 3 week cruise in the Mediterranean visiting Italy, Greece, Turkey, Malta, Monte Carlo, France and Spain. We took a week's vacation so we were gone 1 glorious month.Upon our return home, we left management to join the TrainingDepartment at Home office. For the next 8 years we traveled 3 weeks a month to over 300 communities (new and existing)in Canada, Hawaii, England, France and all over the mainlandUSA to train the employees in the many systems it took to properly run a community. The 4th week we wereat home office conducting training sessions for managers and co-managers. It was an extremely stressful, busy and sometime very hectic profession, but we loved every minute of it especially our interaction with the residents andemployees. To know that we were able to help the employees by making their jobs easier was very rewarding and to visit with the residents and reassure them that life was much better not living alone and to hear their life history was awesome.
We retired in 2009 and we now travel by car or in our truck and 5th wheel to visit family, friends and see America. We recently relocated to Sun City West, Ariz. for my husband's health. We have been busy remodeling our home and getting settled. Growing up in Bisbee had help to give me a grounded and stable life so I could do what I did. Not many people could have put up with our schedule. It also helped me appreciate a small town since all of our travels took us to large cities. When I visit Bisbee and drive thru the tunnel, I feel as though "I've come home!"
