Today's Featured Biography
Husain Roussel
Biography
The story of me, Husain Roussel, starts on March 14, 1971 in Detroit, MI where I only resided for two months until moving to Fort Worth, TX. My mother, Beverly, and father, Daniel, were both in the military (Army) at the time of my birth, which resulted in us having to travel frequently. One of the places we lived was Balboa, Panama where I did most of my elementary school.
In 1981, my family and I moved to San Antonio, TX where I completed elementary school and where my brother, Juaquin, was born. The unique thing about my brother’s birth was that he came into this world being visually impaired. He has always been admired for his persistence and ambition in achieving his goals. He loves music and currently has a band that performs in the Austin/San Marcos area. He is also a published writer and freelance music journalist. My parents had to make a lot of sacrifices to support us as a family, which left me to help in taking care of him. I was a regular in his school activities as he grew up to join things like Scouts, writing clubs, and Kung Fu.
In 1986, my father was reassigned to Wiesbaden, Germany where I completed both high school in 1989 and two years worth of college. During that time, I was involved in such things like Track and Field, Cross Country, Tae Kwon Do, was on the Mayor’s program for Aukamm housing, and was in the Art Talent Pool program. I was lucky enough to actually have an art piece submitted to the young adult section of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. After graduating high school in 1989, I supported myself by working for the military commissary and for Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). Another job I had was working as a Safety Clerk for the United States Military Safety Office, Community Commander Headquarters. This job gave me the opportunity to perform safety inspections within the military community. This job also allowed me to witness German court operations. This may have also been a sign for my job interest in the future.
After a few years of college in Germany, my parents and I made a trip back to the United States to research potential colleges to finish my degree. In 1991, I ultimately decided to attend Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, TX graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Other than graduating in 1996, some significant highlights of my college career were that of being President of the German club, learning to read The New Testament in Koine (Hellenistic Greek), and becoming both Vice-President/member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Theta Chapter. During my college career, I was a teacher’s aid for the History department. Other jobs entailed working for H.E.B., Sears, and three years in the High-Tech industry at IBM. I worked another year with Raytheon Systems Company - Defense Contract Division, however IBM would be the place where I developed most of my leadership skills as a team leader.
After working with high-tech companies for a few years, I ran into a gentleman while in Forth Worth, TX who was into Criminal Justice. After talking to him and my mother who at the time was a Police Lieutenant/Investigator with the Department of Defense, I became a Parole Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Austin, TX. As a State Parole Officer, I served as a halfway house officer for two years, and a Super Intensive Supervision Program officer for the rest of the time.
After doing this for four years, I made the decision to attend the Department of Public Safety Training Academy to become a State Trooper. My first assignment was in Texas City, Galveston County as a Highway Patrol Trooper. While there I took part in helping victims of Hurricane Katrina and then evacuations of citizens during Hurricane Rita. My current assignment is right here in Austin, TX at the State Capitol building as a Capitol Detail Trooper / Governor's Mansion Detail. Currently I graduated with a Master of Science in Administration of Justice and Security via the University of Phoenix in May 2008. I am now working on a Doctorate in Management and Organizational Leadership.(If I do not burn out first). I think moving around is in our blood and I love to travel. I like to take trips all over the United States and visit my father's family in Puerto Rico quite a bit. I have not been to Germany since August of 1992, however I do run into some of you from time to time and keep in touch with Scott Rosenkrans and others. The best years of my life were spent in Europe, Wiesbaden, Germany and General H.H. Arnold High School so I am very happy to be here with all of you again!!!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
