Today's Featured Biography
Mike Anderson
Hey, y'all. After grad I went to U of M night school for a year and worked at the Hainerberg Commissary. I followed my class mates to U of M, Munich campus the following year. I had way too much fun drinking beer and enjoying Oktoberfest, so I bombed out on grades. OOPS!
I rotated home with my parents in 85 to Randolph AFB in San Antonio Tx. I started working as a baker at Dunkin Donuts and married a local girl, Carla Squyres. Neither worked out. Carla walked out 10 months after we were married and took everything with her. That includes all of my memorabilia from Germany such as yearbooks, pictures and bier steins.
I spent the next 5 years working at Andy Grannatelli's Tune-up Masters where I discovered I was a darn good mechanic. I again drank way too much beer, but I managed to move up in the company and became a shop manager.
After the divorce was final, and when Mr. G sold to a company that didn't appreciate us, I decided to move to Omaha Nebraska. My family was there and Dad was finishing up his USAF career. I had also met a hot little redhead that was stationed there at Offut AFB.
I married my redheaded sweetie in 1991. She was 19, I was 26. Heh, Heh. Sallie and I will celebrate 16 years in May. We struggled with her working odd shifts at Ehrling Bergquist Strategic Hospital, and me doing what else?? Bagging at the commissary and working nights as a telemarketer. (no one would hire me as an auto mechanic because I wasn't ASE certified!)
When our daughter almost died while Sallie was TDY to Kansas, we decided to swap roles. I enlisted in the Marine Corps, she got out of the USAF. I have been in now for 15 years. I am an aircraft mechanic. We have been stationed in Beaufort SC, Okinawa Japan, and Yuma Az. I am currently at Yuma.
I have done two pumps aboard aircraft carriers. In fact we blazed out of Okinawa on 5 Oct 2001 with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) hell bent to kick terrorist's butts! Unfortunately, we hit a typhoon and it did a lot of damage to our helicopters so we turned back. The second boat pump was with the 15th MEU. We did tsunami relief in Indonesia in December of 04. Right place, right time I guess. We spent the last part of the pump in the Arabian Gulf where we supported combat ops during OIF. Most of us went ashore to do our jobs.
I came home for 7 months and then went right back to Iraq. If you want to know about that adventure, visit my blog (click on the personal website link here). I have been home since September of 06. Hopefully I won't go back soon. We'll see.
Stay in touch. Tschus.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
