Today's Featured Biography
Cathy Statz
After graduating in December 1996 from Lawrence University in Appleton, I started working full-time for Wisconsin Farmers Union (WFU), a grassroots advocacy group for family farmers, rural communities, and concerned consumers. I had attended summer youth camps at WFU Kamp Kenwood, and worked most of my college summers as a camp staffer, so it was a natural next step.
As the education director for WFU, I coordinate not only the summer camp program but a variety of other conferences and educational activities, and serve on a number of committees and non-profit boards related to sustainable agriculture and cooperatives.
I met my partner, Tom Pamperin, through mutual friends from college. A year after our September 2005 wedding at Devil’s Lake State park near Baraboo, Wisconsin (the site of our first meeting in 1995), we moved into our present home in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. We are mere blocks from the Leinenkugel’s Lodge and Brewery, so stop by when you’re in town for Oktoberfest!
Tom is an English teacher at Chippewa Falls High School, and we both enjoy singing in Community Choir and participating in Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild productions; he occasionally plays trumpet in the pit, and I audition for musicals whenever it fits with my work travel schedule.
A few years ago, we adopted our pride and joy: a tabby cat from the local Humane Association. We named him Ozymandias; but most everyone calls him Oz or Ozy for short.
