Today's Featured Biography

Rev. Thomas Lilly

After I graduated from BHS in 1989, I attended Marshall University where I received a BA in psychology. In 1996 I received my Master of Divinity from Louisville Seminary, where I studied as a walker-Kennedy-Patterson Fellow in New Testament Greek. I completed my pastoral residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia in 2003, and I moved to New Orleans in 2005 and went to work as a full-time chaplain for the Mcfarland Institute. During my tenure there, I counselled many survivors of Hurricane Katrina and helped reopen a nursing home that was destroyed by the flooding in the lower 9th ward. I was ordained a minister of Word and Sacrament in the United Church of Christ on June 25, 2006. In 2007 I became board-certified through the Association of Professional Chaplains. In 2008, I went to work for Serenity Hospice Services here in New Orleans, and am greatly humbled and rewarded by my ministry to the dying and their families.
