Today's Featured Biography
LEROY NIENOW
After Graduation I did shows with local theater groups and did a few musicals with Holy Angels Academy (all girls school :^) and Choreographed for Homestead High. Went on the road professionally in early 70s with “Brothers & Sisters” singing and dancing. Left my life on the road to get married to High School sweetheart Sandy Criss. Happily married & doing Community Theater (Milwaukee Players, Sunset Playhouse, Theater Alverno, Music Under the Stars etc., etc.) for about 4 years / Sadly, marriage failed / Licked my wounds and decided to move to N.Y. in 79 / Went to San Antonio first to visit sister Linda & never left Texas!(healing place) / Moved to Wimberley / Met & married Maggie, beautiful southern belle with brains, 9 years younger, in 83... we were both baptised in Christ later that year / Did lots of Regional Theater / Helped build a Theater / Moved to Austin in 87 / Did lots more Theater / Artistic Director for 2 Theaters / Got some awards & recognition / Had my Son, Luke on my 45th Birthday / Stay at Home Dad for 10 years / Started writing original shows / One really took off “The Gospel Accordin’ to Texas!” (“Godspell” type musical) 12 major productions since 94, seen by over 50,000 very enthusiastic fans all over Central Texas, came close to movie deal & permanent annual production. (neither happened, but it was a great ride!) After over 80 productions, I still do some Theater (one or two productions a year acting and/or directing) Recent shows were “1776” (Rutledge), “Man of La Mancha” (Directed and did Gov/Innkeeper role) and another production of G.A.T. (above) in the small town where the show was set. (coming full circle) Current: Still in Austin, still happily married after 33 years. Maggie is an Exec. Secretary, still looks fantastic and still puts up with me! (yes, she was quite a catch) Luke is 20, attends Texas State University as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major, 6 feet, handsome, funny, and he is his own man! He also plays Bari-Sax, keyboards, bass and just started up on drums. I’m semi retired from theater, until the next project that interests me. After 40 years you get to pick and choose. :^) This year marks my 37th year in Texas. I have surpassed my 29 years in Wisconsin and am definitely an "Adopted Texan". A good thing, since both my wife and son are native born Texans!
School Story: I loved my High School years... Washington Players, Choir talent shows, Madrigal Singers, "Alice in Wonderland", "Outward Bound", "Brigadoon", "The Boyfriend". Favorite Teachers: Ronald Routt (Stagecraft & Art) Kathy West (Choreographed Musicals) Ms. Perkins (Business Law) Mr. Erdman (Choir) Jean Lauman (English & Players). I guess my favorite times were going over showtunes in the practice room with Jerry Isaacs, Kenny Hirschbein, Chris Cedarburg, Mary Farrell & Cal Grabias. Also have fond memories of Sandra Savick, Sonja Asunto, Bob Ruffin, Sherry Stillerman and so many others. The performing arts opened up a whole new world for me, and it all started at Washington High School.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
