Today's Featured Biography
Jan Toubl
1966 - purchased 3 adult pheasants as a senior in high school to train my bird dog
1969 - founded Toubl Game Bird Farms - a partnership with my father Ray Toubl.
1969 - began regional sales of live birds to hunting clubs
1970 - graduated with BS in Poultry Science-Production & Technology.
1972 - Married the love of my life - Karen. We were married in Madison at Saint Paul Chapel on the UW campus. Father Nilles performed our wedding ceremony.
1973 - Purchased 30 acres of bare ground in Newark Township west of Beloit to establish a foothold for Toubl Game Bird Farms.
1974 - Built our home on that 30 acres.
1974 - Set up the hatchery in Karen's garage!
1975 - Our first "chick" is hatched - a little "rooster" - our son - Jan Michael.
1976 - Jan goes fulltime in the bird business.
1978 - Our second son, Jeremy James is born.
1979 - Uncle Bob Homuth spends almost the entire summer building 4 acres of flight pens nearly by himself!
1980 - Jan buys father's interest out and borrows money for the first farm building - 54' x 90' brooder barn for raising baby chicks to 6 weeks of age.
1982 - Our "favorite" (and only) daughter -Kelly Jean is born.
1983 - 5 year barn loan is paid back!
1984 - Entered the smoked pheasant business with contracts with 3 of 5 mail order catalogs approached, including Cabela's, who we still have today.
1984 - purchased our first smokehouse oven and placed it in back room of a State-inspected facility because we had no "building" to house it.
1987 - Took the quantum leap borrowing a huge amount of money to build - a hatchery and a smokehouse / further processing building under USDA-FSIS specifications.
1988 - Karen can actually park in her garage again!
1989-2000 - grew the business to where we were hatching over 200,000 birds per year - pheasants (5 strains), partridges (chukar and huns), and wild turkeys -selling baby chicks, eggs, and birds to Taiwan, South Korea, Czech Republic, Canada, Mexico, and US nationwide.
1989-2004 - TGBF was now a vertically-integrated company (except for the slaughter segment which was contracted out).
2004 - TGBF is incorporated as Toubl Enterprises Inc.
2005 - Our first grandchild Jordan Michael is born (Michael's one and only!).
2007 - Son Jeremy treats Mom & Dad to a one week trip to Italy- Rome-Florence-Venice.
2008 - TEI receives a registered trademark from the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name "Birdman's".
2009 - a weather disaster befalls the company when our outside flight pens collapse under a 15" heavy wet snow
2010 - TEI receives registered trademark approval from the USPTO for its "Bird-T" logo.
2010 - Family pow-wow determines that TEI will not rebuild the flight pens and now just concentrate on the meat production segment. The boys have moved on to another successful business venture and Kelly will maintain her position helping Mom and Dad in the meat business.
2010 - Our second grandchild is born -Kelly's first - Morgan Gloria.
2011 - Our third grandchild is born -Kelly's second - Calliope Rae.
2012 - Jan "retires" but is retained as a managing consultant.
2013 - while fishing with son Jeremy off Anna Maria Island on the Gulf coast of Florida, Jan catches the unofficial world record tarpon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYavZ2eMWn4 .
2013 - Jeremy Toubl contracts the services of a branding company to develop a corporate logo and look for the Birdman's brand; a new web site: www.birdmanspheasants.com is created to promote the all pheasant snack stick line. . .
And the "Meat Goes On". . . . .
