Today's Featured Biography
Eve Hartshorn Hays
My husband, Jeston, and I live in Bothell in a 70's split level that could use some updating. Parts of Bothell remind me of South Hill when we were younger. We have been married about three years. Jeston loves to sing and is a bass. He is wonderful for me.
Jeston commutes by bus to the Seattle waterfront for work. He is a software developer. I work part time in a store in Bellevue.
Motherhood has been my most important work. Other positions have been warehouse work, jewelry sales, para-educator, customer service, HR assistant, middle school guidance clerk, administrative assistant, book and clothing sales. I have also done a lot of volunteer work in the schools and at church.
My four children are Shara, Jacob, Thomas and Marissa. Shara, 29, lives in Utah and is finishing up her bachelor’s degree. She is planning to go to law school in the next couple of years. We got to visit her in June.
Jacob, 26, is a Marine and married with three children. He has been deployed twice to Iraq. He is learning Russian at the language school in Monterey, CA. Jeston was in the Army and learned Russian at the same school many years ago. We visited Jacob and his wife, Bridget, for July 4th. Their children are Haeley, age 4; Jacob Jr., age 2; and Jarod, four months. Jeston and I love being Grammy and Papa.
Thomas, 23, is a firefighter in the Air Force and enjoys what he does. He recently came back from being stationed in Germany. He’s traveled to Berlin, Paris, Prague, Luxembourg and a few other places. He visited home in early June. Now he is stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia.
Marissa, 20, lives with me and plans on being an ASL interpreter. This fall she transfers to Seattle Central CC, the only place in the state with an ASL interpreter program. She is working through the six ASL prerequisites before she can start the program. She works at the local Bowl and Skate.
Jeston has three children. Ben, 24, attends Shoreline CC. Alex, 22, attends Everett CC, works at Lowe's and lives with us. Emmy (Emily), at 19, is our youngest. She started out the fall at Edmonds CC with Marissa, but wasn’t ready. She is not sure of her path but will find her way soon.
I have learned much in this 30 year span. I have had pain, sorrows, happiness and joy. Even when I could not see him, God has been with me every step of the way.
