Today's Featured Biography
John Hinds
Hi,
Right after graduation I went into the U.S.Air Force/Security Police. I was sent to Kunsan, Korea where I worked Law Enforcement & Town Patrol. I was then stationed at Laarsbruch Royal Air Force Base, Germany, Hahn Air Base, Germany, & Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany.
After discharge (Honorable) I worked for Seattle-King Co. Security as a Patrol Sgt.
I then joined the Arlington Police Department in Arlington, Wa. where I was surprised to see Jon Frantzen, a fellow Mountlake Terrace H.S. graduate was working as a Police Officer. I worked there as a Police Officer/Acting Chief of Police until Sept. 1978.
I joined the Bloomfield, New Mexico Police Dept. in the 4 corners area. I worked as a Police Officer there for 2 years. Poor pay and benefits and many injuries later I decided to return to Washington.
In 1980 I joined the Snohomish Co. Sheriff's Dept. I started out as a road Deputy for the first 2 years. I was then promoted to Detective, first working as a Burglary Detective for a year, then transferred in to the Major Crimes Unit (Homicide, Rape, Robbery).
In 1989 I was sent to school to become a Composite Artist. In 1991 I was accepted into the F.B.I.'s Forensic Art Class at Quantico, Virginia where I became a Forensic Artist, which I do to this day.
In 1992 my composite sketch of a serial arsonist in 5 counties around Seattle led to his identification & arrest.
I've done facial Reconstructions, composites for Police agencies nationwide. One of my drawings is featured on Ann Rule's website.
(A 30 year old cold case Homicide).
I have drawings in several books and magazines and in numerous newspapers all over the country.
My drawings were featured on Dateline NBC. I was featured on Evening Magazine doing a facial reconstruction of skeletal remains on an unsolved homicide. I was also featured on Court TV's FORENSIC FILES
"Firestarter" . My composite drawing of the worst serial arsonist in U.S.
history, Paul Kenneth Keller, identified him & lead to his arrest/conviction of 76 fires & 2 homicides in the Seattle area.
I've given talks to Police agencies all over the country on Forensic Art. I've done hundreds of composite drawings for numerous Police Agencies in Maine & New Hampshire, Colorado, Washington, & Oregon.
I've been the subject of articles written by others about Forensic Art in Law & Order Magazine, The Artist Magazine.
Other than that I've travelled all over the United States & Europe. My wife is a former Stewardess then a Social Worker for the State of Washington. She graduated from school in Illinois.
I have 2 children, John,Jr. who is a supervisor at an Airplane Mfg. Co. and a totally disabled from birth daughter. Both are in their mid 20's.
My latest drawing of an unidentified Homicide victim can be seen on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNb2rFDlD6U
December 2009 was featured on Washington's Most Wanted as a Forensic Artist helping to identify victim's of crime. Interviewed by Parella Lewis, Q 13 Fox News.
I have 3 grandson's:
Christopher Shamus
Corbin Riley
Caiden Gage
