Today's Featured Biography
Tom R. LUCAS
After leaving MTHS in 68, I married and had sons Jason and Chris in 73 & 76 respectively. After bouncing a bit in the retail sector for about 9 years I joined the ferry system and remained for 30 years working my way to chief engineer. During that time I divorced and remarried (1994) to Twyla. Tried to have another child but was not successful. We share 6 grandchildren (3 girls & 3 boys)and one great granddaughter. The entire family is located in central Snohomish County.
During this 50 year period I have lived only in WA. Moved back to Snohomish County in 1978 and stayed. I retired in 2007 at the age of 57. Since then Twyla and I have traveled and visited all 50 states (43 in the 5 months following retirement), visited 40 countries on 5 continents. We generally do two domestic and two international trips each year. This year we will be traveling to eastern Europe during the class reunion to add a few more countries to the list. Followed by a 3 month cruise (Auckland to Vancouver)in early 2019 that will add 15 more. Since leaving the ferry system I have also discovered the joy of serving others through volunteering by helping direct non-profits through board involvement. In 2016 the board of Trinity Lutheran College (established as Lutheran Bible Institute of Seattle 1944)chose to close the school. As the President of the Trinity Education Foundation I was thrust into a full time task of helping close the college and help the Foundation survive. Now, two years into the process we are about six months from a wrap on the college. The Foundation is awarding scholarships and has plans to be around for many years. I absolutely love what I am doing and the people I work with.
