JoAnn Denny Mansfield
50 years! Where has the time gone? As I look through my '61 high school annual it seems like yesterday. . . . Following high school graduation I attended Pacific Lutheran University for the next 4 years and received a BA in Education in 1965. During the fourth year of my teaching career in Clover Park School District near Tacoma I decided to specialize in one area so entered the University of Washington Library School for the next year and a half where I earned a Master of Librarianship in 1970. Devoting the next 26 years as a library media specialist in Shoreline School District I retired after 30 years of service in Washington in 1996. Early during this time period I married colleague, John David Mansfield and together we pursued our teaching careers as well as our real estate career in acquiring and managing our rental properties in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties. In 1980 our son, Colin Michael was born who is just a few courses short of his degree in law and justice as well as exploring the real estate industry. He currently works in security. We have lived in the Kirkland area in the same home for 33 years and remodeled our property about 12 years ago. Although I still own the home I was raised in on Wollochet Bay (where my heart tells me I will return) I keep it rented and do plan to reside there someday. While retired from our first careers we still work at managing our properties and our home based business, USANA Health Sciences. Work gives us purpose plus the intrinsic reward of helping others. Additionally, we love traveling and meeting people from other cultures and have discovered cruising over the past 8 years. In 2010 we journeyed into several ports on the Baltic Sea, and we just returned home from a month long trip to Europe exploring parts of four countries including an eastern Mediterranean cruise in July. There are many places on our “bucket list” remaining to see and experience first hand. As I advance through the “golden years” I am grateful for the life I’ve lived, for my family, for the friends I’ve made and for my classmates at Peninsula High School. I look forward to our 50th reunion with anticipation and lots of excitement - to become re acquainted with as many of you as possible and to learn what you’ve been up to over the past 50 years.
