Denise Thompson Stewart

After abandoning my dream to move to Los Angeles and dance in music videos, I graduated from BYU in Advertising Management and have marketed treatment centers ever since (who knew treatment centers had marketers?). I also served an LDS mission to France/Belgium/Luxembourg where I fell in love with gourmet cooking and Nutella. After dating for six years (I must have had serious commitment issues) I married Ray Stewart, a kind and handsome Jersey boy. We then moved to Rio (an incredible experience!) where he played basketball and I ate papayas. After swearing we would never live in Utah, we bought a home in American Fork and started a family. I made the not-so-easy transition to stay-at-home mom, which I continue to fight by working from home. This presently includes coordinating speakers and speaking on eating disorders/body image to high schools, dermatology billing and working on a board aimed at addressing mental health issues at the junior high level (see www.powerinyou.org). I still can't believe some of you have teenagers! And I've just been called as a Primary President (I think I'm being Punk'd!)which has actually been a lot of fun.

I love hanging out with my kids; they are so much fun, momentarily think we're great and are highly entertaining. I've heard one has a certain amount of free time once one's kids are in school but I haven't experienced that yet. My husband is a basketball coach and teaches basketball lessons to young children, which is truly his gift. I'd love to someday go to Africa on a humanitarian mission but I'd like to cheat a little and stay in a nice hotel with a great masseuse. In my free time I love to read, cook, travel, and convert my city-bred husband to the great outdoors. Apparently, I still think I'm seventeen because I continue to attend Def Leppard concerts. High school was a lot of fun/a major source of angst. I'm not sure which. But it is great to catch up and see that everyone is doing well. Life is good... By the way, we were in NYC this year for the Macy's parade and the band looked great. I was proud.
