Today's Featured Biography

Craig Harper

While I was in High School, I worked as a disc-jockey and part-time engineer at KRZI Radio. After graduation I left radio for more money in TV. I went to work at KWTX-TV in Waco. I started there as an engineer and occasional disk jockey on both the AM and FM stations.

In 1981 I married Paula Daily who also grew-up in Waco and I had known for years from church. She is the best! In 83 we had a son Stephen and in 86 a daughter Jennifer. Jennifer was married in 2009. We lived in Hewitt for many years.

Since 1986 I have produced football games for the Baylor Radio Network.

In 1990, I left KWTX to become the News Operations Manager for WFAA-TV Channel 8 in Dallas. In this role I was responsible for all technical operations of the news department including news coverage of the 1991 Gulf War and three Super Bowls (in which the Dallas Cowboys won!).

In 1997, I left WFAA to go to work for our parent company; BELO Corp. BELO owns 20 television stations and 6 cable news channels across the US and I am Vice President of Technology and Chief Information Officer and work in downtown Dallas.

In my career I have served as member of the ABCNEWS Affiliates Technology Board. In 2007, he became a member of the National Association of Broadcasters’ Technology Advocacy Program and serve on the Technical Standards Group of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) as well as the Open Mobile Video Collation (OMVC).

Professional awards include the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Silver Baton Award for WFAA’s coverage of the 1991 Gulf War and I have 4 Emmy Awards.

I am a deacon at Prestonwood Church and a board member of the City of Frisco Texas Charitable Foundation and I am active with the City’s Fire Department by serving on the citizen’s advisory board for the department.
