Michael Robbins

After graduation I began @ Memphis State the following fall. Working full time @ White Station Wine & Liquors & then Sycamore Liquors, I graduate with a degree in Political Science in 1979. Having met my future wife, I decided against law school & continued to work @ the liquor store till it was sold in 1983. I went to work @ Premium Brands & then moved to A.S. Barboro, both local beer companies until 1990.

In the summer of 1990 while on vacation in Yellowstone National Park I began having difficulty breathing. Upon returning home I had a battery of test run, but the doctors were unable to find anything. A month latter I was in the hospital with a sever heart attack. A complete heart workup was ordered on Tuesday & I was rolled into surgery on Wednesday for quadruple by-pass. It seems that my GP had missed two prior heart attacks. Ten days in the hospital then ten days after coming home I had to return to the hospital for a fast heartbeat. I was told I had a condition that caused my heart to suddenly race & that untreated it would kill me. While still hospitalized I underwent testing for 30 days & was finally given a device called an Implanted Cardiac Defibrillator that required another open heart surgery. I had another heart attack & bypass in 1997 & 5 more ICD's implanted over the last almost 18 years. Today my health is good, at least for someone with only 3/4 heart capacity.

Janet Orians & I married in June of 1979. We bought a home on the edge of Bartlett & started our family. Christopher was born in January of 1981 & Paul followed in May of 1982. We moved to our present address in Stonebridge now part of Lakeland just days before our third son Adam was born in September of 1985. John arrived in May of 1987. My wife taught 4th grade @ Bruce, Sherwood & Snowden Elementary schools until I became disabled in 1990. In 1992 she moved to Hawkins Mill Elementary as Assistant Principal. She remained there until she became Principal in 2000. She moved to Shady Grove Elementary in 2007 & is now about to start her 33rd year with Memphis City Schools.

Janet, our sons & I have camped in all 50 states, all the Canadian provinces, the Yukon & Northwest Territories. The highlights include a 10,816 mile round-trip 39 day drive to Alaska & camping on two island in Hawaii.

All four on our sons are Eagle Scouts. Christopher is an administrator @ Catholic High School & is married to Jessica McKinney. They are expecting our first grandchild in November. Paul is a computer programmer for The New York Times.com & is married to Bekky Griffith. Adam is leaving next month to attend Law School @ Villanova U. John is a junior @ U of Memphis.
