Today's Featured Biography
Margaret Beasley
Not many people knew who I was while we were still in high school. I can't really say that I knew who I was either! I was extremely quiet and lacking in social skills. I wouldn't want to re-live those years, but believe me... it would be very different if it were to happen!
I went to Berea College. It was (and is) a small, private, liberal arts college in Kentucky. All students work for the college and there is no tuition. While there, I met incredible people like Desmond Tutu and Daniel Berrigan. I got a degree in studio art. I worked my way through school as a weaver and later, as the currator of the Art Department's Special Collections.
While still in high school, I was once named Senior of the Month. Go figure. I said I wanted to work with animals and/or teach art to people with mental retardation. I ended up doing both. Working with people who have developmental disabilities came to me by chance and became my passion. I have held a multitude of different positions with different agencies in different states. I am currently the Director of Training and Education for a wonderful company that provides services across Tennessee (including the Chattanooga area.) I get to use my creative juices liberally. While I hardly spoke a word in high school, I now have people wish I would shut up!
As I recall, about half the jokes told in high were about gay people, though without the politically correct terminology. I tried hard not to be one of THOSE people, but what can I say? If you remember me at all, you remember that I was a little wierd anyway. So yeah, I am a lesbian. I am now in a relationship of over 10 years. We have all the hairy, four-legged children needed to validate our place in the lesbian community. We were living in Knoxville, but my job brought us to Nashville and we find that we like it here.
I never thought that I would like to be a part of the group that were THE graduating class of '74, but curiosity has gotten the better of me. I would welcome the opportunity to know any of my classmates again or for the first time.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
