Today's Featured Biography
Benjamin McInnis
Hey all! Let's see if I can give a quick synopsis of the last twenty for everyone's amusement...hee hee hee!
After graduation, I went to CCRI briefly, but got more into RPG gaming & all-you-can-drink coffee at Bickford's on Jefferson Blvd than I was in my studies, so I lasted a year & then went back a couple of times after that. I studied Theatre, but my ego wouldn't allow any criticism, so when I bombed my first audition at the college, I just let things slide.
I ended up acting in the Meadowbrook Theatre Rocky Horror Picture Show cast from 1992-96 & directed the cast from '93-'96. Rocky was a blast & exactly what I needed at the time. I left the cast in '96 on good terms as working a job I actually got paid for became more attractive than dressing in drag on the weekends.
I spent about twelve years as a bouncer & security professional for various non-profits, clubs, bands, & corporate security firms, finishing my stint as an Account Manager for Securitas; at the time, the third largest security firm in the world & handling security staffing & concerns for Gilbane Properties at their Fleet Center & 7 Jackson Walkway accounts.
I left Securitas & was hired by Toray in 2001 & have stayed there ever since in various functions & levels of responsibility.
In my personal life, I was married in 1998 to the love of my life & became a dad at the same time when she & her son came into my life. Since then, we've had 3 more kids & 13 very interesting years together that I wouldn't trade for a second.
My spiritual pursuits take up the greater portion of my time not allocated to family & work. I teach & mentor in comparative spiritualities & have been studying such for the last 27 years. Teaching is something that I can't help but do & is my plan for my retirement job once my youngest turns 18 in another 14 years or so. I figure that's enough time to get edu-ma-cated & land a job teaching history; hopefully at the collegiate level as I don't like the restrictions the public school system places on curriculum. A great deal of the history we've been taught & our kids are taught as fact is either out & out fiction, or only the smallest inkling of the facts from extremely biased sources.
I still write when the mood takes me; usually essays on spiritual subjects. I was asked to write the Introduction of my society Brother & mentor's forthcoming book that should be published some time this year & details some of the more esoteric subjects within our shared spiritual Tradition. I will soon be beginning work on my own chapter in said Tradition's history, though I am currently still in the research & practicum stages for my own literary work.
I think that's about it at this point. Life has dealt us all the hands we've gotten & I hope all of yours played out as well as mine did. Blessings to all & I'm looking forward to the reunion this spring!
