Kristin Miller Lynch
Okay, so as a writer, I re-contemplated my original bio and decided to throw caution to the wind, air my dirty laundry, lay it all out…
With my BA in English in one hand and my suitcase of dreams in the other, I returned in York from Indiana University of PA only to find my parents in the midst of a rather hideous divorce…so I moved into my grandma’s dining room, brass chandelier and all. I stayed there for 8 long months while working as a cashier at Weis Markets. And then, amen, I got my first "real" job and my own place. Over the years, I worked in various positions related to writing and editing in York, Harrisburg, and Baltimore.
I got married in 1996 and moved out in 1999. The best thing I took away from that was my dog, Mocha, who is still my constant companion. There ain’t nothing like the love of a good dog.
Ah, life in York as a single gal…let’s just say “it ain’t pretty.” Until, of course, I met Andy, who has now been my husband of 5 years (beating my own personal best). Shortly after we eloped to Jamaica, we decided to move out of York – fearing it would be now or never. After a week-long scouting trip to Colorado, we decided to pack it in and head to the Rockies. Andy quit his job, we sold our townhouse, and we headed out in my Subie.
Once in Colorado, we lived the dream…I worked as a freelance editor and writer, and Andy got a job as a Risk Manager. Before long we bought a house in serene Superior, CO. Within another year and a half, we bought a fixer ski condo in Summit County that we remodeled and kept for ourselves. Because Andy worked from home on Fridays, we spent 3-day weekends in the mountains, working “remotely”…as in, from the slopes! We were living the charmed life - we knew it, and we savored every second. But as all good things do… In early 2006, Andy’s company went up for sale. He interviewed and searched for a job in the Denver area to no avail. Until the fateful question was posed: “Do you mind if I send a resume or two to some other cities?”
So, we lived for 13 months and 1 week in Issaquah, WA, an overpriced burb of Seattle. Andy took a position with T-Mobile USA in Bellevue. Because it’s their headquarters and it was a great opportunity, we took the job - not one of our best moves. Seattle is crowded, traffic-laden, expensive, and did I mention the rain? It does indeed rain in Seattle, for like 9 months a year. And I’m talking the torrential downpour, flooding, landslide, people drowning in their basements type of rain, not the misty haze they try to sell you when you’re interviewing.
UPDATE: Andy and I have been back in Superior for 2.5 years now. It took Andy 2 months to find a job, while I supported us with my freelance editorial business. Our time in WA is now but a distant memory! Soon after we returned to CO, we found out that we brought a guest along with us on the trip East...our first baby! After 2 years and two unsuccessful pregnancies and a surgery, the miracle has finally occurred! So, we've been revamping our (outdated and ill-kept) house and preparing for our new arrival. We couldn't be happier and can't wait to get the little guy up on skis and hitting the trails!
BIRTH NEWS: Our baby boy was born on May 6, 2008 at Boulder Community Hospital. Due to my high blood pressure, I was induced, and Finn Thomas Lynch was born at 3:41 am. Andy and I have been in love ever since!
UPDATE: Finn just turned 2 years old. He is a very active boy with a "big personality", as the folks at day care tell us. He is talking up a storm and learning new things each day!
