Today's Featured Biography
Richard Woodman
After graduating from Oklahoma State, I was a soldier for awhile (Korea and a few other places), was in the oil & gas business for several years (Tulsa & Dallas), and worked with my father in the savings & loan business in Elk City for a couple of years. Since 1978 I have been a university professor.
David is the CFO of Evans Enterprises and lives in Norman. Anna owns an interior design firm located in Orlando, Florida. Her firm's website is schmidtdesignstudio.com--some beautiful designs there! We also have three wonderful grandchildren: Hannah, Caleb, and Elizabeth.
The following is in response to Ed's questions:
Impactful teachers: I fondly remember Ed Copelin's father, who taught us algebra in the 7th grade. He was passionate about math in general and algebra in particular. He worked very hard to get us to see the power and beauty of mathematics and what he did mattered. Another teacher we should all thank is the lady who taught typing our sophomore year. I am embarrassed to say that I cannot remember her name, but I use what she taught me almost every day (like, for example, right now).
Memorable sites: I happily remember dragging Main, honking like crazed idiots when we saw a classmate in a passing car as though we hadn't seen them for years, sitting around the DQ and other places doing things that high school students do. People! Think of the huge amount of time we wasted doing these things. We could have learned a couple of languages, or invented something of value. Still . . . wasn't it great?!
How about the gatherings at the pavilions in Ackley Park in the summer--some summers almost every night. Those were very fine.
I also (strangely) have memories of after-school trips to the North Fork of the Red River during our last semester before graduation. Walking the river bed, listening to music (or was that just in my head?), talking about what we were going to do next, laughing, drinking the occasional beer . . .
Funny incident: This is a tough one since Ed said that it couldn't embarrass him or anyone else. So--I'll just embarrass myself: One time I filled the glove compartment of Bill Holder's car with dead bugs gathered from the plastic bags from bug-catchers at the dairy queen, the park, and other places. When I was 17, I thought this was hilarious. Now, not so much. It seems like a tacky thing to do to a good friend. So, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to Bill.
