Today's Featured Biography
Ann Luppens Laney
I have to say that I can’t believe it has been 50 years since our graduation. We were only 18 years old with the whole world ahead of us. Now we are a little older with the wisdom, hopefully, to live each moment to the fullest. After high school, I attended The University of Toledo. I graduated in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Music Education. In 1974, I married my husband, Michael Laney. We spent almost 15 years enjoying backpacking with family throughout the West, while we also enjoyed many visits to my brother’s beach house in Ocean City Maryland. After 15 years of being able to give all my nieces and nephews my undivided attention, we started our own family. Megan, now 31, has a bachelor's degree in nursing. Megan and her husband, Jason, live in the Cleveland area. I travel each week from Toledo to babysit my grandson, Max, who is almost 3. Megan is a nurse at Cleveland Clinic downtown working in PACU. Matthew, now 26, just graduated from Ohio State Graduate School with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Matt begins a new career on August 5 in Columbus working for Orthopedic One. Megan graduated high school from Notre Dame Academy, and Matt graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School. I treasure the years we spent with our children. What great memories I have. I am looking forward to enjoying the next adventure as our children begin to build their own lives.
After graduating from the University of Toledo, I found that jobs were hard to find. I decided to attend Bowling Green University in order to become certified as a special education teacher. My first teaching job was in Madison Plains outside of Columbus teaching 4th and 5th learning disabled students. My husband began the local 8 electrical apprentice program in Toledo, so I shared a duplex with my good friend, Jackie Haworth Hoy in London Ohio for a year. Oh my, the adventures we had. After that year, I moved to Montpelier, Ohio to teach a primary learning disabilities classroom for 4 years. Because I commuted from Toledo to Montpelier for 4 years, I decided to look for a school closer. Evergreen High School in Metamora, Ohio was looking for a high school special education learning disabilities teacher. I taught at Evergreen for 30 years retiring in 2010. I was honored to be awarded teacher of the year and Northwest Ohio Special Education Educator of the year several years before I retired. In August of 2010, I was enjoying my first day of retirement, when I received a call from Evergreen to be a long term sub from August through February. Well, I did that. Then the following year they asked me to teach 4th and 5th-grade special ed. I did that for 2 more years. After that, I began to do academic testing for the school psychologist and online teaching. My weekly retired life consists of working at Evergreen along with babysitting in Cleveland. Life is good.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
