Today's Featured Biography
Stephen Mostov
After DeVilbiss I attended the Univ of Michigan, spending my junior year abroad in Israel. I developed an interest in Jewish and Middle Eastern history and entered the graduate program at Brandeis University in Waltham Mass. I was at Brandeis for 7 years, getting a MA and Ph.D in Jewish History. During that period I spent 1 year in Cincinnati doing research, which is where I met my wife, Ruth - who was visiting there from Israel. We were married in Jerusalem in 1980.
I published a number of articles and a Ph.D thesis on the social and economic history of various American Jewish communities - including Boston and Lynn, MA and Cincinnati. Several of these studies are widely cited in scholarly literature about the Jewish community. I also worked for several years as a Teaching Assistant and Researcher at Brandeis, including carrying out a study that was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
In the 1980's our three daughters were born in Boston. I also made a career change into the Technology business, leaving academia behind. The Boston area was a hub for growing computer companies. I had become a computer user as a researcher. I was hired as a technical writer and instructor by Wang Laboratories (you may remember Wang word processors!). At Wang I specialized in database products and travelled internationally, training Wang support staff and key clients. Several years later I left Wang to establish a consulting firm the specialized in training on Wang software products. Customers included a number of state governments and federal agencies.
In the 1990's I was hired by a London based financial services firm (that I had worked with as a consultant) to be the VP of Data Processing for their US offices. I relocated with my family to NJ, commuting into NYC but also travelling regularly to Montreal/Houston/LA where we had offices. My 3 daughters all 'grew up' in NJ.
After 7 years in financial services, I left to become a management consultant, specializing in the implementation of ERP systems (large financial and human resources systems used by most major organizations). I've worked as a Senior Manager and Director for large consulting firms: Ernst & Young, CapGemini, Accenture, NTT DATA. My particular role has generally been Project and Delivery Manager. I've worked with a broad range of clients - mostly government and financial services. Some of these have included the United Nations, the NYC MTA (subway and commuter rail system), and state and local governments and school systems and universities. Lots of travel! I have visited all 50 states - which included family trips to Hawaii and Alaska and a fun trip to North and South Dakota to 'nail' the last 2 states!
In the last few years, all 3 of our daughters (Joanna/Rebecca/Sarah) have married, as we hosted 3 weddings over an 18 month period. Two of them are in the NYC/NJ area and 1 is in LA. All 3 are in creative fields (including writing/movie producing/ musical performing). We recently celebrated the birth of our first grandchild - a granddaughter named Liana. We remain in NJ. I am hoping to retire in the next year or two, and we'll see what comes next!
Our family has maintained close ties to the Toledo/Detroit area, where we have lots of extended family, and frequently visit. I look forward to reuniting with the great Devilbiss Class of '69!!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
