Today's Featured Biography
Jane Marshall Jane Sullivan
After graduating from Hastings High in 1953, I spent the next four years at SUNY Potsdam College in Potsdam, N.Y. I met my husband, Al, in 1955 and we were married in 1957. He is a graduate of SUNY Brockport. I taught for two years and then spent the next fourteen years as a stay-at-home mom raising my four children. I returned to full-time teaching in 1973 and taught fourth grade for the next fifteen years. My husband, Al, and I retired in 1988. We moved from our home of thirty years in Webster, N.Y. to the Adirondack Mountain region where we built our "dream house" on a small lake just outside of Saranac Lake. We have lived here for the past fifteen years.
I spend quite a bit of my time doing volunteer work in both the communities of Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. Most of these volunteer endeavors are connected to the Olympic Development Authority and they provide me with an opportunity to become "up close and personal" with ski jumping events, figure skating competions, hockey tournaments, and World Cup Biathlon activities. I also am a XC skier during the long winter months and enjoy water activities during the summer.
All of our children are married with families and all live in the Rochester, N.Y. area. This makes it very easy for us to visit and see everybody at virtually the same time. We have eleven grandchildren ranging in ages from two to thirteen. They all love coming up here at different times during the year to ski, hike, fish and climb mountains throughout the year.
Right now, I am involved with and excited about my 50th Class Reunion which will take place in Hastings in October, 2003. I have been in touch with many of my former classmates during the past year and we are all planning and working very hard in order to make this reunion a smashing success. It is really great to become re-connected with all of those wonderful people who were such an important part of my life during my school years.
