Today's Featured Biography
Melissa Magee Nicholson
After graduating, I went to Fort Lewis College and graduated with a BA in Psych and minor in Business in 97'. I then moved to Orlando, FL where I did an internship at Walt Disney World for a few months. While there, I met my now husband of 5 years, Scott Nicholson. He was a piano player and singer at the dueling piano bar on the Boardwalk and in Tampa...so yes, I met my husband in a bar!!
After moving back to Aztec from Orlando, I got my first job with Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Dedham, MA. Scott is from Connecticut, so I moved out there to see where the relationship was going and because being from NM, I always wanted to try the Boston area. It was totally different than the southwest. I did that for almost a year and then moved to CT where Scott was and did a sales job for a year and then I moved down to New York City. Scott had moved there about 6 months earlier to try out the music scene there. I never even thought about living in NYC, but I have to say it was a great experience. I was there for a little over a year working as a recruiter for IT professionals until I was relocated with my company (Stride & Assoc.) to Atlant, GA.
Atlanta was very different. We lived there when the .com's started failing and 911 happened...not a good time to be in the IT industry. Scott and I decided it was a good time to move back to CT until we figured out what we wanted to do. I decided to take a break from sales after becoming very burned out and took a job with an insurance company in Webster, MA. It was a nice break, but I missed sells!
About that time, my dad was considering retiring as the superintendent of Aztec Schools and he ended up taking a job with David H. Paul, Inc. in Farmington as the Dir. of Ops. As he told me what they did I decided to apply for their sales opening. I never thought I would want to move back to Aztec! Scott and I had considered Phoenix and even visited and were now engaged so were looking for a place to settle down. I got the job and we moved to Aztec! Totally different for Scott now, and he helped me find an appreciation for the area that I never had before. It was awesome being home with family again...and then Scott started driving out to Las Vegas for 5-9 days at a time to do gigs at the dueling piano bars at NYNY and Harrah's. They really started to give him a lot of work.
We got married August 31, 2003 and then moved to Las Vegas in May 2004. I still got to keep my job with DHP and just worked from home. AWESOME!
We had our first daughter, Sienna March 2006. I then decided to take another recruiting job with an agency out of Irvine, CA that also allowed me to work from home. I found out my first week on the job that I was pregnant with our second daughter, Chelsea, who was born May 2008. And here we are! I have a wonderful family, a great job that allows me time with my kids and husband and we get to see our parents a lot.
