Today's Featured Biography
Jean Fischer Childress
Moved to Houston, Texas in 1972 where I met and later married the father of my children. He was transferred to Memphis, Tn in 1983, and I became a lady of leisure. Before that I worked as a trading assistant for a bank investment firm. Our children were born a bit later than most of our friends’ children, but I was glad to have them anyway! When my son was 15 mos old my husband died suddenly in an accident. He had taken a leave of absence from his investment business to start a “hobby company” called The Classic Car Company, which we started with his collection of antique cars. We had a sales floor and a restoration shop in a building that was the first Ford dealership in Tn, built in the 1920’s. Our first client was Graceland! They hired us to restore all of Elvis’ cars, motorcycles, golf carts, and go carts that would be put on display in the new car museum that was across the street from the “mansion”. This work included among many vehicles his Stutz’s; Ferrari’s and his mother’s pink Cadillac. Again, this was just a hobby, but soon turned into a business where antique car owners sent us their old cars from all over the US to restore. Did meet the Presley family and have remained friends with the estate. The museum is truly fabulous, and a major tourist attraction when visiting Memphis. I was always more of a “Beatles” fan, so who would have thought a Jersey Girl would do something like this. Guess life is what happens to you when you are expecting something else.
When Brian died, I closed the business, and then did not get back into the work force for several years when my brother, Carl Fischer, (class of 72) approached me to start a residential construction company. Little opportunity for new housing in Jersey at that time, and the building business was booming here. We build luxury custom homes, and I must say, besides my children, and my new husband, my proudest accomplishment has been to build a home to benefit breast cancer in 2003, a Vesta Show Home to benefit MS in 2004, and “The Extreme Estate” in 2005 to benefit St. Jude Children’s hospital.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
