Today's Featured Biography
Marilyn Townsend Smith
2006 -
Since High School - In June of 1956 I entered the Army-WAC. I did clerical work while in the Service. Did my training in Alabama-3 months; then stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina-September 1956 to November 1958; from there went to Bremerhaven, Germany from November of 1958 to May of 1961 when I was discharged with a Honor Discharge. After home awhile I got a job at the Court House in Omaha as a typist at Juvenile Court. Was there until 1964. I joined Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in April 1963 and I married David L. Smith in November of 1963. My husband had a son from his first marriage, he was two years old when we were married. We lived in Omaha for awhile, had a son in May of 1965 and moved to Iowa and had another son in November 1967. We then moved to Joplin, Missouri, bought five acres of land and built a house; had another child, a girl born in October 1969. I worked for awhile; went to Crowder College for a few years. Then we moved to Omaha for about nine months-couldn't find what we wanted so we moved back to Missouri. We found some land in Stella, Missouri, sixty-two acres-built a home, that was in August of 1979, where I am still living. I worked for Nicsingers Uniforms-6 yrs and Shaffers Uniforms-3 yrs. I was a pattern marker. My husband died in June of 1987. I now have 3 grandsons; ages are 15, 14, and 10; 4-granddaughters; ages 17, 7, 5 and 2. I enjoy craft-knitting-sewing-quilting and gardening. I belong to the Neosho Flower Box Newcomers and the Widow to Widow Clubs. I am still active in my Sorority, since April of 1963. I am now working as a florist at The Super Center Walmart in Neosho, since April 23, 1993.
