Today's Featured Biography
Susan Shipton
I am now living in Durham, NC and working as an Administrative Assistant for a company in Apex, NC.
While in college I joined the NC Army National Guard in April 2001 and made plans to begin Basic Training following my graduation. I graduated from East Carolina University in December 2001 Magna Cum Laude with Honors with my Bachelors of Music degree. I had an amazing time teaching middle school band for two semesters at Williston located in downtown Wilmington.
Beginning the first week of January 2002 I left for Basic Training and the best 3 months of my life! I enjoyed the ropes courses, field training, obstacle courses, classes, and of course the firing range so much that I often wish I could go back just for those reasons. I did not make a tour in Iraq, much to my family's prayers, I ended up leaving early due to financial concerns.
I then moved a lot looking for work, the arts in schools were again being cut away, so many music teaching jobs were not available. I waitressed, worked for a custom home builder to develop his customer service and warranty department, then moved to working customer service for a Pest Control company (found a new appreciation for insects), and finally ended up where I am now.
I work for a company that designs & installs fall restraint systems for high-rise buildings throughout the contiguous states. It is quite fascinating and the people I work with are the best group I have yet to know.
I am now working to finish my degree in Advertising & Graphic Design. We just recently put on an art show where I was able to sell 6 of my first ever published children's book. I wrote and illustrated this 36 page book for my Design III class and I am still in awe that I was able to produce it.
I am so excited to see everyone again and I hope we have an awesome turn out! I have enjoyed reading everyone's biographies and seeing all the wonderful things our class has done. Go Bucs!
