Much has happened since high school graduation. Undergrad study at Brigham Young University. A stint as a public information officer in the US Air Force, graduate school at East Carolina University, opportunities to live in Washington, DC, New York City, and San Francisco and especially the opportunity to travel throughout the world. I have probably logged over a million air miles traveling throughout Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and the South Pacific. Living in San Francisco afforded me the opportunity to make many international friends, some of who I still visit whenever I can in Greece, Italy, and the UK. I was last in Italy and Portugal in 2016 We hosted a graduate student from Brazil for the past couple of years and decided to retire in southern BRAZIL, which we both love. Our friend, by the way completed a doctorate here this year (2021)
This new adventure began just before Christmas 2011 and is probably the best move of my life. Great place to be able to live a full and rich retirement far away from American expatriate colonies and among the authentic culture of this country.
Married for 40 years to Jean Young, from Iowa. It was a privilege for me to be step-father to her two children, Troy Swartzle(NBHS 88), who lives in Gilroy, California, and Kristine Alexander(NBHS 91), who, after living with us here during 2012, returned to New Bern, where she is still living and working. She has a 15 year-old son, now a freshman at NBHS.
I spent a number of years with Citibank as a VP in account management, student loan division, retiring from there at age 55.Before moving to Brasil, I taught English at Saint Loui University and the Univ. of Missouri-St. Louis. It was the best way I know of to stay in touch with the world as it is. I enjoyed having students of all ages and from diverse walks of life. .
Have often thought of retiring in New Bern. My North Carolina roots are over 300 years old, and those in New Bern are as old as the city itself. But once the travel bug bites and the world leaves such a lasting impression, it's hard not to heed the call to live abroad when the opportunity comes along. The world is a fascinating place that is hard to experience a series of whirlwind tours. Been there, done that too many times.
Love to hear from any and all of you, should you like to re-establish contact. Over the years, I have maintained contact with several class members and others from classes that finished before we did, but it is always good to hear from others with your news.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
