JANIS CAVINESS Carter
Hi Classmates!
After high school graduation, my best friend, Debra, and I headed south, and ended up in sunny St. Augustine, FL. We had a great time there, and learned a lot of life lessons!
I met my husband, Jed, there. We married in 1976, and lived in Florida for three years. Having lived his entire life in Florida, his dream was to live in the mountains of NC, so we moved to Asheville, NC. He worked at the Biltmore House, and I worked at Thoms Rehab Hospital, and we both cared for our baby daughter, Christina.
We decided to head for the coast again, so after 3 years of living in the NC mountains, we moved to Carolina Beach. We managed a small oceanfront motel, the Burlington Motel. I met a lot of people from Burlington there! It was a lot of fun (and hard work)! We stayed for 12 years, but
I was getting homesick for Bigger, Better, Burlington, so...we moved again. Back home, back to family.
I worked at AT&T/Lucent in Greensboro, for 4 years but was laid off when the plant closed.
I am currently employed at UNC-CH.
After a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, Jed passed away almost 3 years ago. Both of my parents are still around and I enjoy spending time with them(my mom was diagonised with Non-Hodgins Lymphoma last week). I live with my best friend, my loyal companion, my 12 year old Dalmation, Buddy.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Class of '74 CHS class reunion in October!
