Morgan Hunter

1986 – 1989: Left home. Worked for minimum wage. Ate Top Ramen.

1989 – 1991: Paid my way through college with the money I saved working minimum wage and eating Top Ramen. Graduated with honors and a double major in English (creative writing) and Communications (speech).

1991 – 1994: Work for non-profits like the MS Society and National Public Radio doing fundraising, public speaking, marketing, and producing. Ate more Top Ramen.

1994: F**k Top Ramen. Abandoned it all and went into Information Technology (Drop to my knees a-la Scarlett O’Hara, “As god as my witness, I will never go hungry again.”)

1994: Birth of my baby girl Fiona. She was not an “accident.” I intentionally became a single mother because I didn’t have to eat Ramen anymore and needed a challenge in my life.

1995: Joined a little start up in Kansas City called Sprint Telecommunications Venture as employee number 30. The company was later named Sprint Spectrum, which they changed because it sounded too much like “Split Rectum” and finally settled on the name Sprint PCS.

1997: Did another start-up this time in the Utilities Brokering industry. Partners in start-up pulled out when they realized deregulation of the utilities industry was not going to happen. Company was shut down and all the employees were let go on Take Your Kid to Work Day. “Look honey, mommy just got a pink slip.”

1998: Started work with Alltel Information Services and met my future husband on my first day. He said my ID picture made me look like a vampire. I explained, clearly I was not a vampire since they were able to take my picture. It was love at first sight and we were married just a few months later after a psychic predicted our betrothal.

2000: Starting working for a consulting firm and spent more time at Sprint. After receiving multiple awards from Sprint, I received the dubious honor of getting on the Sprint Black List. No longer able to work for one of Kansas City’s largest employers we moved to Miami FL.

2001: ¿Cómo se dice, no creo que estamos en Kansas. Mi marido y yo fuimos a trabajar para Telefónica. Desde que firmó un no diclosure yo no puedo decir acerca de todos los actos de mala muerte y illeagal que ocurrieron. En resumen, hemos vivido allí durante dos años infernales y luego se trasladó de nuevo a Grandview Mo.

2003: In a moment of severe sleep deprivation my husband approved the purchase of a historical rock house on 6 of land in Grandview. Since we were planning to retire there, we did a full down to the studs rehab (mostly by ourselves) with all the bells and whistles. Lived for a full year without a stove, which didn’t matter because I don’t cook. Just as the final coat of paint was drying my husband and I were asked to relocate to Chicago….right in the middle of the housing crash. Whoopee!

2009 – 2011: Loving Chicago. I started my own information technology consulting firm. Bought a Lotus Elise to celebrate mid-life and I’m currently working toward my racing license. My favorite quote is “Any sport that requires a helmet and flame-retardant clothing is a sport worth doing.” I also have a successful business blog with readers in 94 countries called Lotus MBA. I never intended to come back for a class reunion since I hated high-school with a passion…but I was free the weekend of Aug 5th so I thought, “What the heck.”
