Today's Featured Biography
David Arendale
Life has been a wonderful journey. I have had wonderful relationships along the way. Three times I almost got married. Instead, I have had long-term relationships with some extraordinary women and mentoring relationships with several young men, Keon and Brian. As a history teacher for four decades, I have had the opportunity to love other people's children. I felt the stewardship of being a supportive classroom teacher. I remember the line at the end of Mrs. Doubtfire where she shares how there are lots of kinds of families. Life has been good.
Some of you had a large impact on helping me to mature through athletics, clubs, classroom interactions, church, and personal relationships. I was still too often a jerk, but not so much by the end of high school. :-)
Thanks to Mr. Dennis and Mrs. Luberts from Olathe High School, I chose a career in teaching at colleges in Kansas, Missouri, and Minnesota. I have taught introductory global history courses and investigated the history and best practices of equity programs, learning assistance, and academic interventions that improve student achievement and persistence.
To stay alive, I work out at the YMCA at least three days a week. I want to be around for the 75th anniversary of our high school graduation. Really. Despite today's headlines, I still have optimism for the future and what a new generation of young people will bring to our world. Spending time with young people in class for four decades has infused me with energy and optimism. Being a Christ follower has been an essential part of my life. I was not always a good model for this life while in high school, but God and life events created an environment in which I could become a different and better person. Life is an adventure. I am blessed more than I deserve. I look forward to seeing many of you at the reunion.
One last note. A practice that I have observed at our class reunions is a table with candles and photographs of some of our departed classmates. I have shared this practice with others who thought it unusual. I am proud that our class does not forget. More than fifty of our classmates have passed so far with the number probably higher since so many classmates cannot be located. The best way we can honor those who are gone is to live a meaningful life and care for our friends and family members. Even better is to become a Christ follower as well.
I look forward to reconnecting with my friends and classmates this weekend. I will also finally get involved with Facebook so I can share your joyful events and post photos of my pet cat, Red Robin.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
